How to create a Brush
This is just a simple tutorial on how to make a brush in ps cs3.
Start with a New image, I use 800-600 just to make sure it is big enough to work with.
Then i use the BUCKET TOOL and fill the new image in with the color WHITE. I use white because all brushes are created in black and white, (black being the space you see and white being clear) there can be no color.
For simplicity sake I am using just a random image that we will be making into a brush.
Now drag the image you'd like to make into a brush to cover your white layer. (start off with an easy image one that already has good contrast. feel free to use the one I have below)
If your image is not already in black and white Go to IMAGE_MODE_GRAYSCALE.
Once this is done u will not get a better feel for what your brush is actually going to look like.. Any area of the image that is not WHITE already (i.e., if its kind of milky gray) we are now going to make it whiter! yay
Go to IMAGE_ADJUSTMENTS_LEVELS. You will now see the adjustments window. The scales (arrows) go from left (black) to Right (white) you will use your mouse and drag the right area closer to the center, this will make your grays/whites lighter.
Once this is done to your satisfaction click okay
Okay last step!!, now all you need to do is go to EDIT_DEFINE BRUSH PRESET and name your brush then click okay!
Your brush has now been created. If you go to the Brush tool palette you will see if in your master Diameter settings.
Now to save the brush. (you may want to create more so that way you have a set of brushes to save but this comes down to personal preference)
To save go to the little arrow at the top of your brush palette. Then Preset Manager.
Hold down the CONTROL button on your keyboard then click the brushes you would like to have in this set.
This will select them. Then click on SAVE SET and you can rename them and save them to your computer.
and you're done!
The finished Brush will look this this
